So today I had two more interviews and it basically went down the opposite of the first day of interviews...
I got both interviews by posting my resume and applying for jobs on careerbuilder.com...which is awesome because I already have another interview scheduled for Friday and turned one down because of it...but it's also weird because employers can see your resume even if you don't necessarily apply for their posting...like the one I turned down was some lady from Farmer's Insurance who wanted me to get my insurance license and then they would subsidize me for the first two years of starting my own insurance agency...which to a lot of people that might be a great opportunity, but that's just SO not me...like if they just wanted me to sell insurance in an office maybe I could deal with that, but doing my own branch? no fucking way man...but anyway...
The first interview was with this consulting company that sells fiber optic systems...the interview went really well and if they call me back for a second interview I think I'll have a better idea if I would want to do it...I guess the company is originally from Georgia and they're expanding and are looking for people to staff a bunch o f new offices so they're really willing to put in a lot of training and really teach people about it...so I would be down for that...learning about it and selling something actually useful to people...that's the kind of sales I can handle...I actually applied for that one...
Now the second interview was with this finance company and the recruiter chick found my resume and e-mailed ME...she called ME before I even read her e-mail or responded if I was interested or not...but she called and wanted to do an interview and kept saying how since she saw Safeguard on my resume I would be such a good fit if I got to the interview and it didn't sound like something I wanted to do I didn't have to continue with the process...blah blah blah...so I'm like OK whatever I'll schedule the interview, look it up online and if it looks like total crap I can just cancel...well I look at her e-mail and it's some loan consultant position, which I'm a little skeptical of but the company seemed legit so I'm thinking, well what's the harm in going to the interview...
Oh, and when she called me on the phone she tells me that I need to bring a hard copy of my resume and "proof of performance"...so the resume is totally normal and I would have done that anyway, but proof of performance has me stumped...so I ask her, "What exactly do you mean by proof of performance?"...
she goes, "Oh it could be anything, one guy brought in a bunch of his karate trophies."
"um, OK, so you mean like awards?"
"Well yeah, it doesn't have to be a trophy, and obviously anything work related is better, but just anything that shows you've accomplished something in your life. Once I had a guy bring me a CD he made...not like a mix tape but he had saved up to buy a bunch of equipment and recorded a CD of music he made."
so....whatever...I had an old certificate for Employee of the Month from Safeguard so I'm cool...but still skeptical...so I get there today and she has me fill out this stupid application...which by the way the most annoying thing to me is having to fill out those stupid application forms with all the employment and education information that is on my resume...so I fill it out but they give one line to fill in your job responsibilities...so I was lazy on this one and just wrote "see resume" for the responsibilities part...
well while I'm filling the paperwork out she is giving this other girl her second interview for like a half hour...they come out of the interview room and her and the girl are like in girl crush mode with each other over how well her interview went and are chatting chatting chatting about how people don't know how to fill out forms and the interview lady goes "It's so annoying to me when people ask if they can write 'see resume' instead of filling it out, no you have to fill it out!"...and I'm just sitting there with my 'see resume' forms in my hand thinking "OOOPS"...
but then it's my turn and she proceeds to give me a tour, which I think is a nice thing to do in an interview because then you can see what you're getting into a little better...but as we're walking she starts going on and on about how once she went inside Safeguard's building and it was so great and how I should already know all this stuff about loan processing from working at Safeguard...and I'm just thinking you realize I've left that company don't you?...but then we start the interview and get down to brass tacks that I don't know half the shit she thinks I do, because Safeguard only deals with the loans after they go into default, and even then we didn't do a damn thing with the actual loan, just the physical house...and moreover this position she's interviewing me for is calling people who inquired about mortgages elsewhere and trying to convince them that they should use this company for their loan...that is the kind of sales I do NOT do...I do not sell people bull shit to make other people rich...sorry...
So she's explaining this to me and asking doesn't that sound great?...so I just say, "I have to be honest, this doesn't really sound like something I would be good at or enjoy doing"...so then she gets PISSY right...
she's like, "well didn't you know this was a sales position when you applied? Or did you think it was something different?"
I go, "I didn't actually apply, you called me and sent an e-mail saying you were interested based on my posted resume, and you wanted to see if I would be a good fit."
"Well, you know I don't really get a good vibe from you anyway, you don't seem like you have a very motivated attitude or a jump-out-of-your-seat, go-get-em personality. So let's just cut ties and I'll give you my card and if your personality changes, you can call me."
WTF!!! You freaking BITCH!!! I'm sure my mouth was just hanging open after she said that...I just couldn't freaking believe someone would be that insulting in an interview...I wanted to be like, you have no idea how much you just confirmed that this is NOT the place for me...but I just smiled and shook her hand, said thanks for calling me, and left...end of story.
But in other news while I was writing this I got a call back from the first place to do a second interview tomorrow and one of the temp agencies got me an interview at the Duct Tape company in Avon for Friday...so, yay! :)
